Parasitic Helminth Data Resources - Have your say!

The HEHH are here to support the amazing helminth research that takes place around the world. Recently, many in the helminth research community got together to discuss the management of helminth data resources.

WormBase ParaSite has been maintained without dedicated funding for two years, and changes in technology mean that the performance and accessibility of this resource will continue to decline. The Eukaryotic Pathogen, Host & Vector Bioinformatics Resource Center (VEuPathDB.org) has developed a model for long-term database sustainability, based on scalable shared infrastructure, voluntary subscriptions scaled to lab budgets, and targeted development grants. While not yet fully self-sustaining, progress to date is promising, suggesting that this could provide a viable long-term home for helminth genomic (and other) data.

Building on the recent discussion we have been asked to share this brief survey which will help facilitators understand helminth research priorities: which genomes and data types matter most, what functionalities you rely upon, and whether the VEuPathDB model and funding strategy could work. Responses are anonymous and will directly shape whether and how a HelminthDB resource moves forward.
